Sound meets sculpture at Chengdu’s playscape in the sky.
“Stop, Listen, Look” is a 7‑meter-tall participatory sculpture created to capture the spirit of Chengdu. Installed on the rooftop of IFS, it blends color, sound, and motion through both motorized and wind-powered elements. With horn-like forms that transmit sound and light set alongside seesaws and bulbous seating, there is something for everyone to engage with.
Wade and Leta were inspired by Chengdu’s circular motifs — from the Golden Sun Bird to the city’s layout — and wanted to merge those traditional forms with bold, contemporary shapes. This was their first large-scale public work in China, standing at over 7 meters in height and nearly 14 meters in width, as well as their first sound collaboration with producer Eric Lau, who created a soundtrack using field recordings from the city. Visitors could manipulate the character of the sound through a controller embedded in one of the freestanding towers. The site also featured a sound installation by local artist Huang Jin. Together, the work creates a space where movement, culture, and sound come alive through interaction.
